5MinuteFiction Blog Tour!

As some of you already know, I was the guest judge on the 5MinuteFiction (5MF) Contest last week, which is hosted by our amazing fellow writer, Leah Petersen on her blog.  “Why is this called 5MF?” you might wonder. Because you have to write a nice little piece of fiction in five minutes. Crazy people that we are!

So.  After I had a blast reading last week’s entries, Leah asked me if I wanted to host this FUN contest here, on my blog on Tuesday, March 15th. Obviously, I said I’d LOVE to.  And I’ve got more good news.  5MF is going to be on tour all March!

Here’s the schedule: (Edited)

March 8: Claire LeGrand: http://claire-legrand.com/
March 15: Monica BW: http://www.monibw.blogspot.com/
March 22: Richard Wood: http://www.rbwood.com/
March 29: Robert James Russell: http://www.robertjamesrussell.com/
April 5:  Sam Adamson: http://future-nostalgic.blogspot.com/

The guest judge on March 15th will be my dear friend, Shelley Waters, who is represented by Mark McVeigh of the McVeigh Agency.  You can check her blog here, and find her on Twitter here.  (She is fabulous, btw!)

What’s the prize? Well, nothing, obviously. =D
But we’ll all agree to tweet and/or blog about the winners so their fames and fortunes will be assured.

So, guys, I’d love to see you around! And the more participants the more FUN we’ll have, right?  Stay tuned for details!

Hugs!

How well do you know agents and the books they represent? (YA)

Okay, so this is a GAME...
You ready to play? Yes??
Awesome!!!  So, below, in the left column, you’ll find pictures of agents who represent YA. And in the right column, you’ll find book covers.  To play, you’ll have to match the agents to the books they represent.  Have fun!

Oh and if someone gets all the agent/book matching right, then leave the answer in the comments section and you'll get a virtual hug from me. (Heh, wanted something else? I'm afraid today I'll just give hugs. ;D)

Deep Inside, The Green-Eyed Monster is an Awesome Creature.

When I was six, I had this friend who was taller than me.  And I was really jealousI wanted to be as tall as she was.  I told my mom about this and she said, “Well, if you want to grow, you should eat ALL your meals, even the ones you don’t like.”  And so I did. (My mom must have been so happy! Lol.) In the end, I grew up all right, and I don’t know if it was because I did my best or because of my genes, but jealousy actually made me work harder to get my dream.

So, I think that sometimes jealousy is good. (There, I said it! Please, don’t hit me.)

Jealousy makes you work harder and put the best of yourself out there.  I only think jealousy is evil when you start wishing bad things to others.  For instance, if I would have wished my friend not to grow an inch taller for the rest of her life.  Or in the lit. world, it would mean that if I see someone succeeding (i.e. hitting the NYT bestseller list or selling movie rights) it’s all right to feel 100% jealous.  But, hey, don’t wish them a total failure on their next book!

So what do you think, guys? Is it all right to feel totally jealous? Does it make you work harder to get your dreams? Or am I just crazy?

Winner Winner Tofu Dinner!! (Yeah, no chicken, you know I'm a vegetarian ;D)

And The Winner Is…

Number 9!!

Congratulations, Chales Frenzel!!!

I’ll beta read the first 3,000 words of DARK DREAMS.
I’ll email you shortly with the details.

Aaannnnnd!  That’s not all.

I’ve participated in many of these online contests and never won anything. (I think random org. hates me or something. :P)  I know what it feels like not to win :(
SO.
I’ll beta read the first 500 words of EVERY participant, if you email your entry before midnight (EST).  I don’t know how many days I’ll take. But I promise to read it if you send it today.  (And, of course, if you were a participant!)

Instructions:

-Send the first 500 words in the body of the email to: moni (dot) bw (at) gmail (dot) com
-In the subject line put: “Quick Contest” followed by the name of your MS, right as you wrote it in the comments section of yesterday’s post.

-Send a one-sentence pitch (I'm not going to comment on it--it's just to let me know what the ms is about so I can beta it better). And be sure to include the genre of your MS.

That’s it.  Thanks for participating! :D

Quick Contest!!!

The contest is now closed. Thanks for participating! =)

I have some time now. So. I’m throwing this contest, in which I’ll beta read the first 3,000 words of your manuscript.

I’ll receive entries until tomorrow at noon (EST), and to participate just write your name, the title of your ms and your email addy in the comments section.  I’ll randomly pick one winner tomorrow and will beta read the 3k this week.

I only have 2 rules:
1) You must be unagented.
2) Your MS must be as polished as you can make it.
That's it. No more rules, because I’m doing this to help.

Though, I’d LOVE it if you would do this for me, too. (NOT obligatory!!)
-Spread the word via Twitter or Facebook, or whatever
-Follow this blog and follow me on Twitter. (Monica_BW)  *bats eyelashes*

Oh, almost forgot…   it can be a POLISHED WIP.  :D
