The contest will be on March 6th. It will open around 9 a.m. EST, and it will close the 8th or as soon as 60 entries get posted.
If you want to get to know Hannah before participating, follow her on Twitter--she's really nice!
Rules:
1) Your pitch must only be 140 characters long. You can check the word-count on Twitter, or if you don’t have an account, go to Word or go here. If it’s longer, you’ll be disqualified.
2) The pitch can only be for finished YA novels. No other genre, sorry.
3) This is for unagented writers only.
4) Since I’m doing this to help, you don’t need to be a follower, but I’d love it if you are. And I’d love it you follow me on Twitter too. ;)
5) Please, spread the word. I’m not going to haunt you if you don’t, but it’d make me REALLY happy if lots of people came to participate.
What should you post?
-Your Name
-Title of your book
-Genre
-Word-count of your manuscript
-The Twitter (140 characters) pitch
-Your email
If you’re a bit lost: I’m pasting a few links so you can read more about writing short pitches.
On other news, Kate Evangelista's TASTE will be coming out soon from Crescent Moon press, and her cover was recently revealed... So I'm spreading COVER LOVE here! :)
This is the blurb!
At Barinkoff Academy, there's only one rule: no students on campus after curfew. Phoenix McKay soon finds out why when she is left behind at sunset. A group calling themselves night students threaten to taste her flesh until she is saved by a mysterious, alluring boy. With his pale skin, dark eyes, and mesmerizing voice, Demitri is both irresistible and impenetrable. He warns her to stay away from his dangerous world of flesh eaters. Unfortunately, the gorgeous and playful Luka has other plans.
When Phoenix is caught between her physical and her emotional attraction, she becomes the keeper of a deadly secret that will rock the foundations of an ancient civilization living beneath Barinkoff Academy. Phoenix doesn’t realize until it is too late that the closer she gets to both Demitri and Luka the more she is plunging them all into a centuries old feud.
Oh, what a lovely cover for TASTE! It sounds like a great read, too. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful cover!
ReplyDeleteI love that cover!
ReplyDeleteYou always do such amazing contests! You're just that awesome. And that book sounds right up my alley!
ReplyDeleteMonica, this is great. This is such a supportive community.
ReplyDeleteIt is, isn't it? I love this community! :D
DeleteThanks for doing this. I'm already a follower and I'll post a shout out over at my blog.
ReplyDeleteDo you think she's opened to upper MG?
Thanks so much!
DeleteI think that if it's tween-ish it's almost YA, right? So I'd give it a try. :)
Yes, it is tweenish and the protag is 12 and the book is at 58,000 words. I will give it a try because I'd acquire experience either case.
DeleteGreat!!! I'm glad I'll see you here next week, then. :)
DeleteWhat a great and it sounds like another great contest.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great! I gave it a Google +1 and will email links to some friends. May the best writer win! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I love the cover, too. Gorgeous and eerie and absorbing.
Thanks for helping me spread the word! :D
DeleteAhh, you are too cool to still be doing these agent pitch contests. I know our fellow writers out there appreciate all the help they can get. And ew, yikes! Taste sounds creepy-cool! Thanks for the heads up~ :o) <3
ReplyDeleteI'll spread the word!!!!
ReplyDeleteOooh...this sounds "tasty"! I'm adding it to my TBR list. Thanks for passing this one on :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for featuring Taste on your blog today! :-)
ReplyDeleteI've tweeted to spread the word. Great opportunity! Thank you. :D
ReplyDeleteLove your contests. Maybe I'll get my revisions done by then. :)
ReplyDeleteCool! I have two friends with Crescent Moon books coming out soon!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to everyone entering the contest!
ReplyDeleteThat cover IS beautiful! Congratulations to Kate :D
ReplyDeleteYou are SOOO awesome for doing these contests. I'm tweeting right...now!
Your contests are amazing! Wishing everyone lots of luck.
ReplyDeleteFun! I wish my manuscript was finished, but it's not quite ready. Hannah is awesome-- she is so nice, and has great editorial advice! Good luck to all the entrants!
ReplyDeleteHi -
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great contest. I do have a quick question though. Will you be deleting the emails so that they are not posted online? I can see why you need emails, but I'm hesitant to put my email (even my junk one) online forever for anyone to see. Thanks.
Rachel
Hey Rachel!
DeleteIf you don't want to put your email, then give me any other easy way to reach you below your entry, like your Twitter account. (Because there have been instances where no one can reach the winners and claim their prices). I won't be deleting emails, btw.
Or if you want you can put your email like this: rachelATgmailDOTcom and spammers won't catch it. And if you're still uncomfortable, after I announce the prices, you can always delete your entry. (Not ideal, but works...)
Hope to see you that day! :)
Mónica
Thanks. I'll post my webaddress, which has a contact form (should there turn out to be a need. ~Grin.)
DeleteRachel
That would work! Good luck! :)
DeleteOooh, this looks seriously exciting. Good luck to everyone!
ReplyDeleteGREAT CONTEST! I will be back:) And that cover is beautiful! I'd read it for that alone.
ReplyDeleteYay, this contest looks like fun! And ditto to everyone else when they say great cover! Love it! (New follower, btw!!) :D
ReplyDeleteYou are a contest Jedi, Monica. Drop dead gorgeous cover. Love that sky.
ReplyDeleteDo we post our entries here? This looks like a great contest!
ReplyDeleteHey Jami! :)
DeleteIn a couple of hours I'm going to post the actual post where you'll have to put your entries. ;)
Good luck!
Great contest - even though I write MG. :) And beautiful cover!
ReplyDeletesounds like a cool book.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great contest. Too bad I missed it!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sorry you missed it! Maybe next time :)
